extraction : )
Teeth are removed when
claimed as 'hopeless' because of several
reasons :
- severely / grossly decayed
- advanced gum / periodontal disease
- irreparable / unrestorable fracture and damage
At times, teeth are
removed
- due to recurrent infections and soreness in the area (impacted teeth)
- in preparation for orthodontic treatment (to gain space).

The Extraction Procedure
Local anesthetic is administered to numb the tooth
and area surrounding the tooth. With firm pressure (that is felt when applied)
the tooth is loosened from its socket and removed. Routinely, the tooth is
sectioned to remove it as per the case. Home Care Instructions when followed
aids in a speedy recovery and healing of the extraction site. Dr. Anisa Shaikh
advises RIDGE PRESERVATION to avoid bone
deterioration that occurs following tooth loss. The removal of tooth results in
a hole in your jawbone where the tooth was. In good time (weeks / months), this
will smoothen and fill in with bone. After 1-2 weeks however, you should no
longer notice any inconvenience.
