Recession of gums allows for invasion of bacteria and trauma and often results in hot / cold sensitivity. The areas also appear unattractive.

A soft tissue graft predictably covers unsightly, sensitive, exposed root surfaces and prevents future gum recession and also protects the roots from decay. Tissue is either taken from tissue bank or the roof of the mouth or gently moved over from adjacent areas to cover the exposed roots.
